I bring no dismal news, I just felt like I should brag. A month ago, on the 18th of May, I swore to myself I would not watch pornography from that day on. For a normal guy, that's quite the resolution. For the sixteen-year-old hornsnowmobile that I am, it would be monumentous. Why stop, you may ask? Porn is so ingrained in Western culture, you say. It's everywhere, everyone watches it. I've long known that pornography is simply prostitution, and that prostitution has harmed many people worldwide, resulting in rape and abuse. As someone who cares about women's rights (and the rights of the abused in general), I can't keep watching porn knowing that someone is having sex when they actively don't want to (that goes for gay porn as well). Consent is only half the deal: consent and desire are what are needed to morally make the fuck.
As it is the 18th of June, I have gone a month without porn, and I used to consume it every day. I have my imagination to get by with (also I've always preferred classy art nudes), and maybe I've contributed to bringing down one of the world's many atrocities.
I don't want to sound pushy, but it's something to think about, and if you are leaning in the same direction I am, I urge you to do the same.
EDIT: It appears I've caused a bit of misunderstanding... I don't deny that there are porn stars who love what they do, both male and female, but I believe that they are quite outnumbered by those who don't.

I don't deny that there are lots of people out there doing porn because they want to and like it, but in my opinion the great majority wants to leave the sex industry. They often can't because they're manipulated, pressured or just plain prevented from doing so.

nope, I will watch porn till I am on Viagra and my semen has turned to dust. Good for you, I hope you have someone to have sex with instead though. I have a very active sex life and watch it with girls, alone, whatever. Here is the rub, if you will, neither prostitution nor porn acting is a forced position if it is above board. Alot of people actually like being in either position, but noone likes the stigma we give it in this country. I dont like to go to work, but you still see my advertising I am sure :) That makes me a corporate whore. And I am okay with that.

Also, for someone who cares about Women's Rights why don't you care about their right to earn a living doing something they enjoy? There are countless pornographic actresses and actors who do the job because it pays bills and it's something they enjoy doing. T hey are actors and actresses who perform theater for the consumer's sexual benefit . Pornography is not prostitution. You are not paying Sasha Grey to have sex with you. She was paid to act out a sexual situation for your viewing pleasure, and in-turn you paid (or didn't pay hooray free porn!) to view said sexual situation. Are there forms of pornography that depict abuse and objectification? Of course, but it is a wide and varied industry and again these actors are paid to do a job.

Not only are the actors/actresses being taken advantage of but they are taking advantage of the viewer too. They are selling you an addictive product that will not only keep you trapped like a slave if you try to leave but will also alter your brain chemistry and your perspective of a healthy and normal sex life.
